CHALLENGE

PAK n SAVE Lincoln Road was looking for a way to improve the value of their waste cardboard & plastic by recycling it differently to maximize this opportunity. They were also looking to reduce their carbon foot print by reducing trucks pick-ups of their recyclable waste.PAK n SAVE had service trucks arriving twice a day emptying the six large cages of loose cardboard and two cages for the plastic waste.

SOLUTION

A-Ward recommended to Pak n Save Lincoln Road the Bramidan X50 baler for cardboard and a B5W for plastic. The X50 produces an export size cardboard bale of 1200x800x1100 400Kgs + in weight. This size can stack 60 bales into a 40 foot shipping container or 24+ tons. The Bramidan low cost B5W has an easy loading wide opening which makes pallet size bales for ease of truck loading.

RESULT

The Bramidan X50 & B5W Balers were installed to improve the value of PAK n SAVE’s waste cardboard by $100 per ton and plastic by $120 per ton.A-Ward’s Bramidan balers fitted into the small space provided at the Pak n Save Lincoln Road site. The compacted pallet sized material means that 3.5 ton of cardboard bales are collected per trip which has reduced their carbon foot print on truck movements from 21 to 1 truck movements per week. This site recycles 650 tons of cardboard per year and 65 tons of plastic; giving the store a machine payback of four months. The cardboard & plastic recycled bales are now a major profit income for Pak n Save Lincoln Road’s business.
