Problem
Nestle needed to operate with increased efficiencies and hygiene. They needed a solution to unload and load barley from 20ft containers delivered on trucks.
In addition, Nestle had to investigate how to lift full 20ft containers from standard trailers (at a height of 1.35m), rise and tilt the lower container edge to a height of 1.5m (to align and integrate with Nestle’s existing ground chute) fully tilt to up to 50 degrees.
Solution
A-Ward designed and built a highly customised open universal style container unloader which gave Nestle fast turnaround, less wastage and ticked all the health and safety boxes.
The container doors could be manually unlatched with the machine in its fully lowered position while the upper frame remained horizontal. This technology hydraulically allows the container to lift while simultaneously backing off from the trailer, providing room for the operator to walk safely between the container doors and the material distribution chute.
The container doors are safely operated utilising hydraulic door closers. The unloader then becomes a self-contained unit, with its own clean electric power pack. This unique design also allows for an extremely environmentally clean and stable base for tilting the containers.
Result
- Increased profit through a two-hour faster container unloading.
- Reduced expensive truck waiting costs.
- Eliminated risk of product contamination. (A-Ward technology removed diesel fumes and unsanitary equipment previously used in the unloading process).
- Improved Health and Safety. The remote control allows the unloading process to happen with the push of a button by a single operator working at a safe distance.
- Eliminated the risk of product spillage.
